The Priciest Limousines in the World

December 9th, 2013

Limousines are often used as a symbol to show off social status and wealth, and as a way to stand out from other cars on the road. They’re also used as a way to travel in style while getting from point A to point B.

Media Lightbox reports that a custom-built limousine can run anywhere from $30,000 to $300,000 depending on the features required, allowing only companies and wealthy individuals access to the market. Let’s take a look at the most expensive limousines available today.

1. The Great Wall Hover Pi

Manufactured by Great Wall, the Hover Pi is a limousine crossover with a length of 6.9 meters. The Hover Pi is the best-selling car of its kind, and has been sold to world leaders such as Fidel Castro, and exported to South Africa, Russia, France, Italy, South Korea and Japan. With a price tag of $33,750, it’s not too much more expensive than a luxury car. If you’re looking for a stylish limo on a budget, the Great Wall Hover Pi may be the best place to start.

2. The Beast

Nice Limousine Image

President Obama’s ride is a beast. It even includes a spot to store the president’s blood type in the event of an emergency.

The presidential state car, also known as the Beast, is a heavily-armoured car designed by General Motors. The Beast was built to replace the 2005 Cadillac GTS presidential state car, and has an enormous price tag of $3,000,000. Accommodating up to seven passengers, the Beast can protect against RPGs, biochemical attacks, and even offers the driver a night vision system. Although it may be a bit overkill for most, it’s designed to protect the President of the United States, so most specifications and features are classified.

3. The Ferrari 360 Modena Limousine

If you’ve ever wanted to ride in a Ferrari and a limousine, the Ferrari 360 Modena will accomplish both goals at the same time. This limo was created by cutting a standard 360 Modena in half and adding seats to the middle before joining both sides back together. The 360 Modena limousine can seat up to eight passengers comfortably and has a price tag of $390,000. You’ll be able to cruise along at speeds up to 166 miles per hour, making it the fastest limo in the world. Unfortunately, there’s only one in existence, so getting your hands on one may be hard to accomplish.

4. Chrysler 300 Limousine

Is room for eight passengers not enough to fill your requirements? Enter the Chrysler 300 limousine, with enough room to seat up to 10 passengers comfortably. You’ll find full leather couches, a mirrored ceiling and privacy divider, flat screen televisions, satellite radio, fibre optic lighting, and an iPhone/iPod stereo dock. If you plan to bring refreshments along for the ride, the 300 limo has plenty of cooler space to stock something for everyone. At a length of 8.1 meters and a price tag of $140,000, the Chrysler 300 limousine is one of the most comfortable rides available on the market today.

The Ferrari 360 Modena limousine features suicide doors for all passengers in the rear of the car.

5. Toyota Century Royal Limousine

Weighing in at three tonnes, six meters in length, and powered by a 5.0-litre V12 engine, the Toyota Century Royal was designed for the Japanese Imperial Household. Features include rear suicide doors, granite steps, and the ambience of a Japanese state room. With only a few hundred Centurys released by Toyota each year, you may have a hard time finding one to bring home. Not to mention the Federal Auto Loan you’ll have to take out in order to afford the $534,000 price tag.

If these five pricy limousines aren’t up to your standards, you can always have one custom-built to your specifications. If you’re looking for a limousine on a budget, your best bet may be to rent one with a few of your friends. If not, plan on spending at least $30,000 for a stylish new limo to add to your (assumed) collection of cars.

4 Questions to Ask a Limo Service Before Hiring

October 31st, 2013

Whether it’s for your teenager’s prom or for a VIP group of business clients you have to impress, a limo is the peak of style, class, and luxury. But it can also come with hidden flaws that can turn what should have been an awesome ride into a poorly organized – and expensive – hassle.

Make sure you ask these questions before you hire any limo company.

Make sure to ask the right questions before hiring a limo.

Billing and Price

Make sure to ask if the driver’s gratuity is included in the price; find out how overtime is billed and at what rate. Ask if the per-hour rate remains the same or goes up if the limo is kept beyond the settled-upon time. Ask about a deposit, how much it is, how and when it is returned, and under what circumstances it can be withheld. Also, check on additional charges such as tolls, parking, tax, and fuel.

Policy Questions

Ask about their cancellation policy and insist upon a written contract containing all relevant information such as the date and time, the number and type of vehicles, deposit, destinations, and payment information. Ask if there is a minimum amount of time to rent a vehicle, and if so, how long. Also, ask what the backup vehicle will be if the primary vehicle is damaged or unavailable.

About the Vehicle

Ask about the specifications of the actual vehicle you are renting – not the fleet average. Make sure you know the year, make, model, color, and all available amenities. Ask which amenities are included in the basic price and which ones are extra. Ask if it is or ever has been a smoking vehicle and if it has ever been in an accident.

About the Company and Driver

Ask how long the company has been in business and if they’ve ever been sued. Be sure to run their name through the Better Business Bureau. Ask how long the driver has been licensed and if he or she has ever had an accident. Be sure to inquire what he or she will be wearing on the night of the event.

Know the company you’re hiring before you rent.

Renting a limo for a group is a sure way to impress and make sure you arrive in style. It exudes class and luxury, but if you don’t prepare properly or choose the wrong company, snags and errors can ruin what should have been an awesome experience. Make sure you’re prepared for your big night with your big car.

Looking to Impress a Client? Get a Limo with All the Fixings

October 31st, 2013

The Pinnacle of luxury, there is no better way to impress a group of clients or potential customers than by picking them up in a limousine. The transportation of the rich, famous, and desired, inside of a limo, everyone is a star for a day.

When you get a limo for your clients, make sure it has some of these extra features.

Modern limos come with an incredible array of features.

TV and Video

A good multimedia system is sure to impress. There was a time when a good sound system was enough – no more. Clients or prospective partners or customers won’t be blown away unless high-definiton, flat-screen TVs are able to play not only television and DVDs, but streaming video.

This is a fantastic way to show a presentation or a pitch before you even reach your destination.

Bar

Make sure your limo has a bar with at least one top-shelf option of all major liquors, with a few cordials and plenty of mixers. Oh, and of course Champagne. Whether it’s to calm your clients down after a long flight or to warm them up for whatever festivities they have planned, a limo with a bar license is a must.

Want to add an extra touch of class? Hire a bartender with limo experience to ride along with you. Your limo should also have a fridge, wine cooler, and microwave.

Toys

Your ride needs an iPod or other MP3 hookup so your customers can play their own playlist on their own schedule. Also, have one of your TVs hooked up to an XBox 360, PlayStation, or other top video game system. Have a video trivia game or an online streaming account such as Netflix.

Other Amenities

Personalized climate control that individualizes heat and air conditioning, upgraded plush upholstery, quality window tinting, and sun roof should be standard on any limo you rent.

Think Big

If the client is worth the cost, consider a specialty exotic limo, such as the Ferrari limo, the Mini Cooper limo, the Hummer limo, or even the Lamborghini limo. Virtually all top-end vehicles offer a limo – usually for a very hefty price. Luxury busses are awesome and can be fitted with all of the amenities of a limousine, but with even more room.

The more amenities you get, the more impressed your clients will be.

A limousine will make your clients feel like rock stars and will make your company look like a business that knows how to take care of its VIPs. When you go the extra mile, go all the way and make sure the limo you rent is a ride your customers will never forget.

How Much (if Any) Should You Tip Your Chauffeur?

October 31st, 2013

The word “tip” is an unofficial acronym that stands for “to ensure proper service.” It was originally designed to be paid before the service was provided, not after. In some countries, including Canada and the U.S., it has evolved to become a kind of bonus payment for good service already rendered.

Tipping in Canada is optional and yet widely expected. There are also unwritten rules about the correct percentage to tip in any given circumstance. If one falls short of this expectation, of course there are no material ramifications; however, if one were to encounter the same individual service provider, it’s likely that the service the second time around would be less enjoyable.

Taxi driver tipping is a different category than chauffeur tipping.

When availing of the services of a limousine or chauffeur, different rules apply in correlation with varying ways the encounter can take place.

Generally speaking, it’s customary to tip a chauffeur anywhere between 10 to 20% of the entire bill, including tax. When trying to gauge what is the correct percentage in this range to tip, consider the following:

1. Did your chauffeur make you and your guest(s) feel special?

Did they hold the door for you and use appropriate greetings and titles, such as “Mr.” or “ma’am”? Though such niceties are expected, it’s not impossible to encounter a driver who is lax on his/her manners and fails to live up to standards.

2. Was your ride a short excursion?

Short trips to a restaurant or event don’t necessitate exorbitant tips, since the driver probably didn’t have to do anything special. Ten to 15% would be suitable.

3. Was your limousine in pristine condition?

Even though limos are cleaned and serviced at a main shop, it’s ultimately the chauffeur’s responsibility to make sure the interior environment is acceptable when you step inside. Electronics should all be working, including communication devices between you and the driver. Minibars should be fully stocked, ashtrays empty and clean, and all other amenities well maintained and ready for your use. Naturally, the seats, floor, and windows should all be clean and clear of debris.

The best man should budget at least 20% for a wedding limo driver tip.

4. Was your limousine service part of a larger experience?

If your chauffeured ride was part of a funeral procession, wedding party, or graduation party, it’s more than likely that whoever organized the event paid for the service, including the tip, in advance. In this case, no additional tip would be expected. In fact, an honorable chauffeur would refuse an extra tip, politely indicating that he/she had already been “taken care of.”

5. Did your chauffeur behave in a dignified manner?

Parking outside Barney’s and “pumping up the tunes” while waiting for you to shop is not dignified, whether it’s classical music or the latest offering from a rapper. At all times, a chauffeur should present a sophisticated representation of their immediate supervisor – you.

6. Did your chauffeur perform above and beyond the call of duty?

Did they work overtime to take care of your last-minute needs? Did they do a store run for you to procure your favorite licorice flavor? Then 20% should be the absolute minimum you tip them.

If you’re still at a loss as to the best amount to tip your chauffeur after reading this, there are two foolproof ways to figure it out: 1) Put yourself in their shoes or 2) Just ask them!

The 5 Craziest Limousines We’ve Ever Seen

September 13th, 2013

The 5 Craziest Limousines We’ve Ever Seen

If you think your car insurance statements are complicated, how do you think the following vehicles might stack up? Check out the five craziest limousines we’ve ever seen.

1. The Guinness Book of World Records holder for the longest limousine in the world is a 100-foot marvel owned by Jay Ohrberg, a famous car builder and collector in Burbank, CA. The American Dream, as it is named, has 26 wheels. This vehicle is designed so it can be driven straight, but it can also bend for taking corners. This dual-driver capacity wonder boasts a swimming pool complete with diving board and sun deck, a Jacuzzi, a king-size bed and satellite dish. Naturally there is also a helipad at the back for last minute celebrity landings.

Jay Orberg’s 100-foot limo is the world’s longest.

2. Bruce Springsteen would be proud of this hot pink limousine available for rental in Dubai, U.A.E. His B-side song “Pink Cadillac,” released in 1984, may not have been the direct inspiration for this Cadillac limousine, but chances are it gets a lot of airplay on its surround sound stereo system. This beauty of a car has a 20-passenger seating capacity in its leather interior, a fully stocked bar, ice pockets, multiple LCD color televisions, and built-in cell phones.

This pink Cadillac in Dubai is for rent.

3. Who would have thought that the humble Volkswagen Beetle could be capable of so much respect in the limousine world? This fabricated limousine was made in Turkey, which makes sense because Turkey is also the location for a large VW Beetle Fan Club. This is not the most luxurious of limousines, but it certainly inspires a few double-takes when it appears in parades and car shows.

This modest limo is unique, nonetheless.

4. If you’re looking for a crazy, but not necessarily comfortable, limousine, your search is over. The dual-nosed Escalade limousine was made by the Weird Truck Company located in Hazleton, PA. Used primarily as a for-hire marketing tool, this truck combines the cabs of two 1998 Chevy trucks. Under one of the hoods is a Vortec V-8 engine. Inside is bench seating for passengers, a state-of-the-art sound system, and a 50-inch projection television screen. This could just be your white whale, and it’s for sale.

Who “nose” which way this thing is headed?

5. Well, you’re in it now if you step inside one of the tank limos from Tanksalot.com. This line of tank limos is based in the United Kingdom, but for a princely sum you can have one delivered for your birthday party or movie premier. These limos are made from real tanks that have been decommissioned, so a lot of the interior bits and bobs are authentic regulation army gear. Of course, the army soldiers inside the original didn’t have access to chilled champagne compartments, DVD players, sound systems, neon tube lighting, and a Jacuzzi. But you will, as you travel rumble down the road, terrorizing everyone in your wake.

This tank still hasn’t retired from active duty.

Limousines today are used to transport everyone from government officials, celebrities, and visiting dignitaries to corporate executives, mourning relatives, and drunken college students. Not all of these passengers require dancing poles, Jacuzzis, and bottles of flowing champagne. But they all have one thing in common: They want to travel in style. And limousines are the epitome of style in the automobile world.

Have a Special Event? Why Not Get a Stretch Limo?

September 11th, 2013

The tuxedo. The ball gown. The black tie. Of all the symbols of luxury, elegance, and class, there is simply nothing in this world that exudes sophistication and style like arriving in a stretch limo. Whether it’s the prom, a wedding, a funeral, or just a night out on the town, there is no better way to make a statement than to pull up in a chauffeured limousine.

Nothing exudes class and sophistication like a stretch limo.

How to Rent

After finding a few limo companies in your area, talk with them personally or on the phone. Get a specific list of both what is and is not included in the hourly rate. Make sure to find out if there is an extra mileage charge. Also, ask if your time starts when you’re picked up or when the car leaves the limo’s headquarters. Is there an additional fee for beverages and ice? Make sure there is a guarantee on the exact car you ordered, including color, make, and model.

Not only will you be much more likely to avoid game-day headaches, but you’ll be less likely to be surprised with a stretch bill to match your limo. Talking to them in person is also a great way to make sure they care about your big day as much as you.

Due Diligence

Make sure you’re dealing with a legitimate business. Hucksters always pop up during the busy seasons of weddings and dances. Ask for references and make sure you see copies of their licenses and insurance. Anyone can put up a very professional-looking website. Don’t get scammed, or worse, put yourself in an unlicensed car.

Plan in Advance

Limo companies work in seasons. There are event seasons in which car companies have their entire fleet booked every night for a month and have to turn down business, and then in the off-season, they service their fleets, catch up on operations, and schedule for the next busy season. Plan at least three months in advance.

Size

Leave extra room. Twelve people won’t fit comfortably in a 12-seat limo. The average limo is designed on the presumption that each “person” weighs 150 pounds. While many women weigh less than that, the vast majority of men will weigh decidedly more. Budget up on space needed.

Avoid headaches and problems by asking the right questions before you rent.

Limos are, in a word, awesome. They exude class, are elegant, and signify a range of concepts from a dignified carriage to a wild party. When you’re driving on the highway and you see a man in a tux and a woman in a dress with their heads out of the sunroof of a stretch limo, part of you wishes you were inside with them. So get inside of your own the next time you have an event worthy of the expense.
